About This Product

This millet rava is a coarse semolina made from foxtail millet grain. It is a direct substitute for regular sooji in everyday Indian cooking. The foxtail millet is sourced from rain-fed farms in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra where it has been grown for generations. After harvest and sun-drying, the grain is stone de-husked and coarse-ground to a sooji-like consistency, not powdered or flour. The rava retains much of the bran layer in the cracking process. No mixing with wheat sooji, no artificial additive, and no preservative is used. It cooks into a slightly golden, slightly firm upma or rava idli that has a clean, mildly nutty taste from the foxtail grain.

How It's Grown & Processed

Farming Method

Rain-fed dryland farming on naturally enriched red soil in South and Central India. Foxtail millet is grown without irrigation or synthetic fertilizers. Crop rotation is maintained with legumes.

Processing Method

Foxtail grain cleaned → sun-dried → stone de-husked → coarse-ground to rava consistency → bran partially retained → sieved to a consistent particle size → packed in moisture-sealed bags.

9 months from date of packing

Storage Advice

Store in a cool, dry airtight container. Keep away from moisture and heat. Once opened, consume within 3 months. Dry-roast before use for better flavour.
