About This Product

Fox nuts, called makhana in Hindi, are harvested from the Euryale ferox lotus plant grown in natural wetlands and ponds, primarily in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. The raw seeds are dried in the sun and then dry-roasted in sand or on a hot pan without any oil until they pop open into the familiar round, white puffed form. This roasted makhana product is made from clean, sorted fox nuts that are dry-roasted with a light sprinkle of rock salt and turmeric: no refined oil, no artificial flavoring, and no preservative is used. The roasting is done in small batches to maintain even crunch and fresh flavour. Makhana is naturally high in protein, low in fat, and a traditionally accepted food during fasting.

How It's Grown & Processed

Farming Method

Makhana harvested from natural wetlands and pond-based cultivation in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. Water-based farming with no synthetic fertilisers. Harvested by wading farmers who collect seeds by hand from the pond floor.

Processing Method

Raw seeds harvested → sun-dried → dry-roasted in small batches on hot pan or in sand without oil → puffed makhana sorted for size and purity → lightly seasoned with rock salt and turmeric → packed in moisture-sealed pouches.

Shelf Life

Storage Advice

Store in a cool, dry airtight container. Makhana loses crispness quickly in humidity seal immediately after opening and consume within 4 weeks. Do not refrigerate.
