About This Product

Jhangora is the local name for barnyard millet in Uttarakhand, where it has been grown on rain-fed hillside terraces by farming families for hundreds of years. It is one of the most important traditional grains of the Uttarakhand hill region and is widely accepted during Hindu fasting periods. The grain grows without irrigation at medium to high altitudes and requires no chemicals; it is one of the most naturally cultivated grains sourced in this range. After hand-harvesting, the grain is sun-dried on open platforms and hand-threshed by the farming family. It is unpolished, stone de-husked, and hand-sorted for purity before packing. Rich in dietary fibre, it has a mild, clean taste.

Farming Method

Rain-fed terraced hill farming in Uttarakhand at medium to high altitude. No irrigation. No synthetic fertilisers or pesticides. Hand-harvested and hand-threshed by small hill farming families.

Processing Method

Grain hand-harvested → sun-dried on open hillside platforms → hand-threshed → stone de-husked → hand-sorted for impurities → graded → moisture-sealed and packed.

Storage Advice

Store in a cool, dry airtight container. Keep away from moisture. Once opened, use within 3 months. Rinse and soak for 20 minutes before cooking.
